Making Your Hair Work for You: Tips For Washing and Finding the Right Shampoos

Whether your hair is fine, thick, straight or curly, finding the right shampoo can make the difference between a great hair day and a disaster.

First off,  knowing your hair type can be essential to finding the most effective shampoo. Knowing what type of hair you have can also help provide clues on how often your hair needs to be washed.

For example, some experts recommend that those with curly hair suds up only every two or three days as excessive washing can make curly hair lose moisture and become frizzy.

According to a Discovery Health article, one way to make hair look clean in between actual shampoos is to mix a solution of dry powder or baking soda with a raw egg and lemon juice.

And for those who tend to have oily hair, washing the hair frequently can be ok- as long as you use a mild shampoo and a conditioner that is specifically designed for oily hair.

And for those who have hair that doesn’t fit a particular hair type, for instance people who have hair that is oily at the top but often becomes dry or brittle at the tips, should avoid using a shampoo for oily hair as it can be overpowering.
