Leggings can be a critical part of your wardrobe. Or they can be your worst fashion enemy. It all depends on how you wear them. Successfully wearing leggings can easily be achieved by following these basic guidelines:

Leggings are not a substitute for pants: This should be self-explanatory. Leggings are not pants, and they shouldn’t be worn with a tank top or other short shirt. If your leggings are see-through, you should view them more as “inner wear” to avoid exposing yourself. 

Leggings should cover your butt: Even if you are super-skinny, your butt looks bigger in leggings. Furthermore, leggings are generally made from thin material and can easily show your panty line. Therefore, a longer shirt should be worn to help keep yourself covered.

Leggings are more flattering in darker colors: We aren’t saying that you have to wear black leggings all the time. But since leggings aren’t exactly supportive, it’s best to go with a dark color to achieve a more slender appearance. At all costs, please avoid “nude” colored leggings. You do not want to look like some girl from “The People of Wal-Mart.

Leggings can be worn with many types of shoes: You don’t always have to wear leggings with flats. Leggings can look equally cute when paired with high-heeled boots and high-heeled pumps. If your leggings are more of a capri style (think active wear), you can even wear tennis shoes and ankle socks.
